If you have dreams of building a house in the Florida Keys, you better do it quickly. The number of new houses which can be built is limited and the available ROGO (rate of growth ordinance) allocations are almost gone. The current estimate is that there will be no more ROGO allocations available in 2025. That said, these allocations are only for new houses on vacant land. In the near future, you will have to buy an existing house and renovate it or tear it down and build a new one in its place. Waiting to build a house “in a few years” on your Keys investment property is no longer an option.
